Feed In Tariffs also apply to commercial installations

Installing solar PV panels on commercial premises of all sorts can be an excellent investment. From the simplest 4kWp solution on an office or shop to a 50kWp solar PV system on a warehouse, factory or farm building; installing solar photovoltaic panels offers a guaranteed stable income. All systems over 4kWp require the presence of 3 phase electrics on site.

Any system up to 10kWp does not require prior approval. Over 10kWp requires outline planning approval and the completion of a DNO feasibility study. This adds up to 6 months to the project.

Commercial installations are subject to normal VAT not 5% and the income from Feed-In-Tariffs is taxable under Corporation Tax of company profits. The reduced electricity bill is of course tax free.

Installing solar panels could well be included in a companies Enhanced Capital Allowance and business are advised to seek the guidance of their accountants on this, however, this alone could knock several thousands off the effective bill.
